The Ponte de Sor Aerospace Education Center is a project developed by the municipality in partnership with other entities from the aerospace sector, aiming to promote education and training in areas related to aviation and space. Its goal is to drive the development of the aerospace sector in Portugal and across Europe.

The Municipal Council has also established protocols with higher education institutions to maximize the potential that a flagship project like the Ponte de Sor Aerodrome can represent for the region and the country. These agreements aim to bring the aerodrome and the companies based there closer to universities and research institutions—both within and beyond the Alentejo region—with educational and research activities in the aerospace and related sectors.

In a highly demanding sector that is clearly lacking in highly qualified professionals, companies and higher education institutions are key actors in ensuring a sustainable response. Within this context, the Ponte de Sor aerodrome has focused from the outset on attracting companies involved in aeronautical training (pilots and mechanics), while also seeking to contribute to a solid national commitment to aviation R&D—one that goes far beyond aircraft design engineering. In particular, aircraft operation and maintenance represent a vast field of opportunities for applied research and innovation.
